![]() ![]() Note that PC=PC', for example, since they are the radii of the same circle.)Ī positive angle of rotation turns a figure counterclockwise (CCW),Īnd a negative angle of rotation turns the figure clockwise, (CW). (The dashed arcs in the diagram below represent the circles, with center P, through each of the triangle's vertices. A rotation is called a rigid transformation or isometry because the image is the same size and shape as the pre-image.Īn object and its rotation are the same shape and size, but the figures may be positioned differently.ĭuring a rotation, every point is moved the exact same degree arc along the circleĭefined by the center of the rotation and the angle of rotation. Rays drawn from the center of rotation to a point and its image form an angle called the angle of rotation. Rotations may be clockwise or counterclockwise. An object and its rotation are the same shape and size, but the figures may be turned in different directions. ![]() When working in the coordinate plane, the center of rotation should be stated, and not assumed to be at the origin. Rotations are TURNS A rotation is a transformation that turns a figure about a fixed point called the center of rotation. And so this would be negative 90 degrees, definitely feel good about that.A rotation of θ degrees (notation R C,θ ) is a transformation which "turns" a figure about a fixed point, C, called the center of rotation. And this looks like a right angle, definitely more like a rightĪngle than a 60-degree angle. And once again, we are moving clockwise, so it's a negative rotation. This is where D is, and this is where D-prime is. Point and feel good that that also meets that negative 90 degrees. This looks like a right angle, so I feel good about We are going clockwise, so it's going to be a negative rotation. Too close to, I'll use black, so we're going from B toī-prime right over here. Let me do a new color here, just 'cause this color is Much did I have to rotate it? I could do B to B-prime, although this might beĪ little bit too close. I can take some initial pointĪnd then look at its image and think about, well, how I don't have a coordinate plane here, but it's the same notion. Kuta Software - Infinite Geometry Name Rotations Date Period Graph the image of the figure using the transformation given. Well, I'm gonna tackle this the same way. So once again, pause this video, and see if you can figure it out. So we are told quadrilateral A-prime, B-prime, C-prime,ĭ-prime, in red here, is the image of quadrilateralĪBCD, in blue here, under rotation about point Q. So just looking at A toĪ-prime makes me feel good that this was a 60-degree rotation. And if you do that with any of the points, you would see a similar thing. Another way to thinkĪbout is that 60 degrees is 1/3 of 180 degrees, which this also looks Like 2/3 of a right angle, so I'll go with 60 degrees. One, 60 degrees wouldīe 2/3 of a right angle, while 30 degrees wouldīe 1/3 of a right angle. This 30 degrees or 60 degrees? And there's a bunch of ways The counterclockwise direction, so it's going to have a positive angle. ![]() ![]() And where does it get rotated to? Well, it gets rotated to right over here. Remember we're rotating about the origin. Points have to be rotated to go from A to A-prime, or B to B-prime, or from C to C-prime? So let's just start with A. So I'm just gonna think about how did each of these So like always, pause this video, see if you can figure it out. We're told that triangle A-prime, B-prime, C-prime, so that's this red triangle over here, is the image of triangle ABC, so that's this blue triangle here, under rotation about the origin, so we're rotating about the origin here. ![]()

If you’re interested in doing some 3D modeling, and Blender in particular, Blender Guru’s tutorial is a great way to get you past that first stumbling block. Like I said, though, the initial learning curve was a real pain. Blender Artists Community Donut and Coffee. I wanted to try modeling this combination too, my first donut. I’ve started creating cover images for Story Time, for example. I wanted to try modeling this combination too, my first donut :yum: Blender Artists is an online creative forum that is dedicated to the growth and education of the 3D software Blender. My take on the fantastic Blender Doughnut tutorial. Add your milk and sugar, then blend until the drink is smooth and creamy. Once your ice cubes are frozen, put four of them in the blender. Let your mixture cool, pour it into ice trays, and freeze it in the freezer. The internet is filled with images of coffee and doughnuts created by graduates of the tutorial.Ī couple days after making the coffee and doughnut, I got as far as this: This is called double brewing the coffee. It turns out that Blender Guru’s video series is considered a rite of passage for learning Blender. It took me two days to get through the series of videos but, by the end of it, I was able to make this: I took copious notes on hotkeys, techniques, shortcuts, etc. They go through the basics of what parts of Blender you need and, more importantly, what parts you can (initially) ignore. Lastly, we added condensation along the inside of the rim of the glass using an image texture. This spring, I had a few days off and a bit of spare time, so I went looking for a beginner’s tutorial. To create a realistic coffee look, we added a yellowish volume with a high density value to give darkness in deeper areas. To create the liquid to go in the cup, we duplicated the inside mesh of the cup and added a top with surface tension along the side of the glass. We started with modelling the cup and applying a glass material to it. To accompany the doughnut, we started to model a glass coffee cup from the reference image below. Depite the colour looking better, the doughnut still looked quite stylised so we added procedural texture to add small bumps and larger bumps that looked like they had bubbled from the hot oil. We texture painted the doughnut to look more ‘cooked’. Now the icing is complete so we moved on to adding colour and texture to the doughnut. We then used weight paint to decide where the sprinkles should ‘fall’ onto the doughnut. To add the sprinkles, we added a hair particle setting where we replaced the paths/strands with sprinkle models that are randomly coloured from our pastel colour palette. Below are some of my first renders in Blender. Everything in this I 3D modelled in Blender myself, the donut, coffee, plates, etc. To achieve the glossy icing look, we reduced the roughness and increased the subsurface scattering to add a more realistic and almost fleshy food look. This is an animation of a donut sliding on a table and resting next to a coffee cup. Made following Blender Guru s doughnut Tutorial ThanksThis was also the first time I implemented sound designUsed:Doughnut, Coffee Cup, Plate and Surface. Next we added a basic colour material to the doughnut and worked on the icing. We started by modelling the doughnut which we then sculpted in more shape and imperfections to add realism. ![]() In this post I’m going to share some of my Blender progress as I am really happy with the results so far!
